Windsurfing: Christchurch Harbour Wind Direction: sw Wind Stength: f 6 - 7 Surf / Sea State: wind chop, confused Air Temperature: 13c Sea Temperature: bit chilly Weather: sunny, one shower Max Speed: Distance Covered:
I rejoined omwc this year so took a trip down to christchurch harbour.
I arrived when the tide was still a bit low for the harbour but it was
blowing too much for me to go out on the open sea from avon beach so the
harbour it was for me.
Started rigging a 5.3 but managed to break the downhaul when rigged as I
went back to the car a looked across the water there was a lot more of the
frothy stuff even in the harbour, rigged the new 4.7 instead!
Once out on the water 4.7 and the 112 lt board was the right choice nicely
powered up. As the day went on the wind picked up a little more but 4.7 is
the smallest sail I own so it had todo.
I even managed to get out for a bit on my 89lt axxis found it scary fast
once up and going but I found it very tough to get it going owing to my
bad techique
Just have to hope for some proper winds this year to get some more
practice, I need it this is only the second time I have sailed a board
under 100lt first one under 90 lts.
I went for the gybes on the axxis but only made one . I felt really out of
control at times on the axxis going for one gybe I managed to get the
board (with my feet in the straps) up above my head needless to say I
didn't make the gybe!
I gave it about hour on the axxis then went back to my 112 lt techno to
finish off the day.
Fantastic day hope we have a lot more like it this year
